Position Title: Senior Pastor


A summarized description of this position:


Church of approximately 300 people, looking for a senior pastor with relevant ministry experience and many high-energy years left. Experience in a larger church setting is preferable. The senior pastor serves as the primary preacher, and overseer of pastoral care shared with other pastoral staff and elders. The church is governed by a plurality of elders, of which the senior pastor is one. Elders care for the spiritual needs of the people, while deacons care for physical needs and the church facilities. 285 year old church with a leaning towards the reformed tradition but with a diverse background among the congregation. A church family representing all generations with robust ministries ranging from seniors to youth and children.

What are the major responsibilities associated with this position?


The senior pastor is anticipated to lead and guide the preaching with approximately 75% of the pulpit load. As the lead communicator, the senior pastor is to set the tone and convey vision for our church family. As the lead staff member, he is to empower the staff to grow in their giftedness as together they equip and care for the church community. The senior pastor shares responsibility for the health of small groups and pastoral care, counseling, visitation to the sick and shut-ins, elements of which may be delegated to other staff based on areas of strength/giftedness.

Skills and strengths this person needs:


We are looking for a man of good and godly character demonstrated in ministry and home life (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-8), who shows a deep love and care of the people, and commitment to the inerrancy, infallibility, and ultimate authority of the Word of God. We desire a pastor who is able to communicate the truth of Scripture in a compelling and convincing manner, and is able to inspire the flock to engage their local community with the gospel. As an overseer of staff, the senior pastor should have an empowering leadership style, and be effective in helping staff and volunteers serve in their areas of giftedness while also demonstrating pastoral care for the staff. We seek a man who is sympathetic, compassionate, and humble; a servant leader whose calling is to lead in gracious example, and to equip the saints.
